What politicians declare they own
Based on the Parliamentary Register of Members' Interests and the Executive Members' Ethics Act. Politicians are required to declare annually. What they omit is often more revealing than what they declare.
System limitation: Declarations are published as flat, non-searchable PDFs. Specific monetary values for stocks, liabilities, and spousal assets are kept in a confidential section not available to the public. Politicians frequently use family trusts and shell companies to shield assets — these may not appear in public declarations.
Why are 8 of 9 premiers showing as data gaps?
Provincial legislatures are required to maintain registers of members’ interests but most do not publish them in a publicly searchable online format. Only Gauteng’s GPL publishes its register with individual entries accessible online. This is itself an accountability failure — we show these cards so citizens know which provinces are not making declarations accessible, not to imply there is nothing to declare.
