City of Cape Town Water Quality

City of Cape Town in Western Cape is one of the stronger-performing water systems in South Africa, with a Blue Drop drinking-water score of 98.1/100, rated Excellent. According to the official DWS Blue Drop assessment, the drinking water supplied here meets safe-to-drink standards. Its Green Drop wastewater/sewage score is 85/100 (Good). An estimated 29.4% of treated water is lost to leaks and non-revenue water before it reaches consumers.

One of the best performing water authorities in SA and the only metro with Blue Drop certification in 2023. Successfully managed the 2018 Day Zero crisis through demand management. Ongoing wastewater capacity upgrades at Zandvliet. NRW is among the lowest in SA at 29.4%.
